Workshop Description:

Mikael will be teaching two workshops, one for beginners and one intermediate/advanced. It is always difficult to define a level for handbalancing, but you can use the following descriptions as a guideline to choose which level would be best suited to cater to your individual handstands:

Beginners: From pure beginners (never stood on hands before) to a relatively consistent 8 - 10s free standing handstand.

The beginners group is focused on the building blocks for controlling a two arm handstand. No previous experience with handbalancing is needed. The primary focus is to develop an understanding of the concepts and providing the tools necessary to build an efficient and rewarding handstand practice.

Since this is only a two day workshop, the goal is to teach students how to train technical elements without a coach in order to effectively practice handbalancing on your own. While being under the continuous guidance of a coach on your way to learning handbalancing is highly beneficial, it is also important to understand the mechanics and progressions you personally need to work on. Alignment, balance, and the relationship between these will be at the core of the work. Specific strength, flexibility, shoulder, elbow and wrist preparation drills will also be covered in detail.

Intermediate/Advanced: You should feel very comfortable in a chest to wall handstand (minimum 20s). This category includes everything from a consistent 10s freestanding handstand to different handstand shapes and one arm handstands.

The advanced group is for those who have some degree of control and experience in a handstand. Refining alignment, working with various leg positions and the effortless changing between shapes, practice towards press to handstand and the road towards one arm handstands will be covered. There will be enough room for individual attention to work on your specific needs and goals as well as inspiration to try new things others might be working on.

Each session lasts for 3 hours per day. Students are encouraged to work to and respect their own limits, and all exercises can be scaled to your current abilities. You will leave this course with a good understanding of the areas you personally need to focus on to make the most out of your handbalancing practice.
